I’m just a lowly level designer, but I managed to go every E3 since they moved it to LA. (‘99 I think). Unlike most veteran developers who hate and despise E3, I always loved it. I’m not rich or famous and rarely worked at AAA companies, so I rarely went to the after parties.

I made my own party and even when working

I’m not sure what the actual “vetting” process would entail..? The Day Before was a playable game that wasn’t infected with any malware. That’s pretty much the only criteria required to sell something on Steam. Quality is largely subjective so if you’re expecting Valve to curate, that means a lot of good games would

Holy crap someone else who actually remembers the days where people were mad that Valve were the arbiters of what got released on PC.

there used to be something like that...but people complained about Valve “Gatekeeping”...so they changed it to $100 and you can put up your game.

I think it’s clear they planned to dump it and run with whatever they got. You don’t drop everything a few days after release if it was a lack of funds, you can’t launch a game if you’re that close to bankruptcy. It might not have started as a scam, but that’s what it became.

I really liked the first State of Decay game. Kind of janky, but I liked the open-ended nature of it.

It was often the most wishlisted game on Steam for much of 2023. A lot of people thought a no-name development team could build a AAA open world MMO.  It didn’t help that the dev team CLEARLY LIED about what features would be in the game.

It was still very relevant as a way for industry professionals to meet, collaborate, make deals, network etc etc.

who exactly was this steam’s most anticipated game for?

Guess you could say the folks dense enough to buy this thing were only born... The day before.

People have almost unfettered access to developers via social media (to the point of absurdity in my opinion), that really the only reason to have an E3 is just to say we had an E3.

E3 has been irrelevant for years. I’d argue it died when they opened it to the general public. At that point, it became just another convention in a long list of conventions.

the thing I think they needed to do was pivot to a pax style event. E3 as a trade show doesn’t make sense in the modern era as most of what is on display is software that can be shown off just as well as if not better online. Not to mention CES is just a better time in the year to do a hardware reveal given the

Well for the first couple games, the legendary Pokemon were just one-of-a-kind and ultra powerful beings. The dabbled with that a bit with Mew being the first Pokemon (think Adam and Eevee) and Celebi traveling through time, but for the most part, the legendary birds, legendary beasts, and Mewtwo were just massively

Calling himself “the Florida Joker” and the tattoo of the literal word “Joker” on his forehead surely will factor into the question.

Perhaps, but then by the same token Rockstar was inspired by him.

They should give him the money, then WB can sue him and take it for the shitty Jerod Leto knock off.  It’s a whole snake eating it’s tail thing.

Not Florida enough. Needs a twist, like the wave pool being full of Bacardi-drunk gators.

Once again illustrating that Florida Man is a f***ing idiot. It’s called parody and satire, and they’re legally protected concepts. The fact that you’re a walking magnet for parody and satire of your stupidity is your own fault.

So you want money because they stole your likeness, the likeness you stole from a movie.... >.>
