And why should that be the case? Seems pretty clear that she means her finger since, ummmm, people wear rings on their finger, not their entire personhood. And in the video and the 2 concerts I've attended of hers she points— -quite dramatically—-at her finger when singing that lyric.

It's literally been less than one week. And she did something commercially and artistically groundbreaking that touches upon womanism, feminism, colorism, sexuality, and body image that exploded onto popular culture and has news outlets, blogs, radio, you name it, buzzing. I think that warrants a few Jezzie article,

She got her GED this year.

It seems to have been a goal for her in that song. She wanted commitment, he didn't, so she says SEE YA.

The "it" seems to be referring to her finger.

Kdud was unintelligible.

I'm not talking just about jail. I'm talking about the collective shrug people give R.Kelly because his victims are Black girls. I'm talking that he carried on a very, very public relationship with a 15 year old, claiming that they were married (Aalyiah). I'm talking about the fact that there is a widely seen video of

I wasn't aware that Black women were
throwing shade at Bey? I know no WoC who thinks she's anything less than amazing. Black women saying Bey can't be a feminist b/c she's married and light-skinned. Really? The Salon article is so, so odd to me...

I agree. But I definitely think that if he, as a Black man, were systematically abusing White girls the way he has abused Black girls he'd be shunned by the entertainment industry and most likely in prison. There is no room in our society for a Black man to sexually abuse White girls. He'd likely be killed for it(I

Thank you for this. The lighthearted article a week ago on Jezebel re: Kelly's latest "opus" was rage-inducing.

Both have made a niche for themselves playing overweight funny women. Losing weight will likely hurt their careers at point. Like the late, great Chris Farley, so much of their comedy comes from their weight and the physicality that comes with it (pratfalls, wardrobe malfunctions, etc).

You literally are talking mumbo jumbo.

It's called "Google." Ever heard of it?

Black woman, born and raised in the good ol' US of A. An attorney who has been mistaken for secretarial staff 4 times in the last 3 years at my firm (there are very few Black female lawyers at my firm, while our support staff is about 60% Black women). I correct the person who made the mistake, the person invariably

She writes and/or produces most of her songs.

There seems to be this sickening "I'm too good to be a nanny" sentiment on this thread. It's gross.

You compared women and men devoted to raising and nurturing children to parolees.

He was adorable in HS!

THAT I get. But acting like being mistaken for a nanny is like being mistaken for a criminal is just offensive. These women and men are incredibly hard-working, dedicated, loving, nurturing individuals who provide a much, much needed service to innumerable families. Let's be respectful.
