I'm glad Orth has moved on and "dealt with it."

We're talking about a hobby where online gamers use racist slurs as if they're widely accepted language. We can't control people, folks. We can avoid them. We can report them. The Internet isn't America - there's no right to free speech.

I very highly recommend the West End Games version of the Star Wars Roleplaying game. It is out of print, but the books are cheap(compared to the WoTC and Fantasy Flight versions), and the system is far simpler. Check out http://d6holocron.com/downloads/wegc… or just respond to me - I'll be glad to help you with any

That may be so, but the tone and grammar of said opinion is stated as fact, therefore it can be disputed.

Good point.

"The creator of the ENB series of mods, which serve as foundation for some of those quite impressive graphical enhancements for GTA IV and Skyrim, among other games"

Reminds me of the guy who tried to get rid of Mirror's Edge because of the word "edge."

Now why hasn't one of the studios picked this guy/team up for a job? That's amazing! Could you imagine if this guy grabbed a hold of some of those classics like Quake, or Doom, and re-did them?

When you over-sexualize things, the resulting disruption of balance will usually happen.

From that viewpoint, naturally, it would make for a story-telling moment.

Since you remain anonymous, I can't say whether or not I've enjoyed your work. Perhaps a listing of your titles would help me determine that.

Not everyone can do that sort of thing. Would then the game be for the "haves" rather than the "have-nots?"

Same thing as I stated just before to another responder:

However, Colin Northway is making his announcement public, thus garnering attention.

I didn't cite that he was being pretentious as fact: it's merely my opinion, and I would love to know how he felt about it, thus the suggestion for a Q&A about it.

Isn't that the case with EVERY MMO EVER MADE?

The whole concept of developing a video game, to me, is that others can take part in your vision, your creation, and come up with their own thoughts about it.

Thank you for this article. Rarely do I find a piece that I can read all the way through here, but I actually took the time for this one. I hereby nominate this for the Kotaku Best of 2013, and I want to read more of your work - video game-related, that is.

I respect FFG for their production value, but there are things I find daunting:

I disagree. West End had the best system, not all backstories were as you describe. I recommend reading the Alien Encounters sourcebook....or listening to our podcast, Shooting Womp Rats.
