I don't see what makes it unethical. Companies engaged in selling entertainment items set the market by what the customer is willing to spend. There's a simple solution to the problem: exercise self control and don't buy an overpriced luxury item. If enough consumers do so, the price drops.

I mean, I'm certainly no expert, But I've always been told they look at the membrane too (at least here in Massachusetts.) A Co-Worker of mine got bounced from her Lasik because they discovered this problem.

Yes, that's a pretty standard reason for denying people lasik here in the states. One of my Co-Workers got told she wasn't a viable candidate because of this very concern, that her membrane was too thick to safely cut.
