OK let me put it this way, the average person can not print on metal. We are talking about 3D printing here. I am not sure the normal consumer at home has a high power laser just sitting around. Also yes, Shapeways can do it but the spirit of the article was doing it yourself at home.

You can get a Printerbot, Makerbot, or one of the other brands for about 400-500$ COMPLETE. You're talking professional HD 3D printing or not out of ABS or PLA.
