Everybody’s different in what they choose to save for. For some, going to Paris or London or even NYC for a few nights is something worth saving two or three years for. For others, it’s a TV or an Iphone or a handbag or whatever.
My one (possibly unhelpful) piece of advice is to avoid the obvious. Everyone has seen a million pictures of the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben or The Great Wall or the Pyramids or Uluru. We’ve seen it. And we’ve seen it photographed better.
This, so much. I love seeing my friends happy and having fun. I hate when someone makes fun into a competition so they can win it. If you’re posting a photo and thinking “This is so beautiful/funny/interesting I had to share it” then do! If you’re thinking, “Ha! Bet those suckers back at home aren’t doing anything…
I love seeing travel photos on Instagram. I follow a few strangers living abroad specifically because I enjoy beautiful, scenic photos of far-flung spots. My one pet peeve, though, is when someone posts a travel photo with a caption that explicitly compares where they are to where I am. Like when people go on beach…
Captions kill travel social media game. Like #honorarynewyorker. Ew. But I'm also pretty anti hashtags in general.
I think the best way to do it is to have a purpose for the photo, like you said. Seeing a coffee cup that’s in another country doesn’t make it more interesting than all the other coffee cups on a photo site.
I like looking at my friends’ vacation pictures just as much as I like posting mine. I think you have to be a very bitter, jealous person if it bothers you to see your friends having fun abroad. Same with relationship pics. Be happy for your friends!

I blame the department and let me tell you why. They praise rookie officers. They’ll go around making a 100 arrests a month, and they’ll praise them. These rookie officers will do anything to get an arrest because they want more praise, you know what I’m saying? This is the result of it. They arrested Gray for some…
This quote about clutter in TheNYT:
“I love clutter. I think being totally minimal shows a lack of history and soul, and I find it sort of pitiful. I think it’s wonderful to have stuff and live with memories and things you enjoy.” Yes. Love her. She is superb.
