That is ignoring the larger problem big time. Sure, cities are cyclical. Things come and go. But these privately owned and much loved businesses are not going and being replaced by something else new and interesting. They are being replaced by banks and chain stores.

I don’t understand the apply of going to someplace new and different - only to visit the same places you have at home. Now, I get it if you are coming into a city from a rural area or want to try a chain that you don’t have at home, but beyond that? Why bother going to someplace else instead of just ordering online?
