It just seems kind of pointless most of the time. In both Fallout 3 and New Vegas the only things really worth crafting were weapon repair kits and maybe a specific type of ammo on occasion.

New Vegas, which wasn’t developed by Bethesda, had all sorts of issues during it’s development. The map was originally supposed to contain more checkpoints and locations but they were cut as Obsidian was trying to meet deadlines. The end result is a map much more barren, and much less deadly than what we are used to…

I think you confused “Reliable,” with “Durable.”

Based on my experience with Fallout 3 compared to Skyrim, Fallout 3 was a much more barren place, with much larger ‘desolate empty desert’ areas then Skyrim had empty areas.
