Unfortunately your assessment is on the money. I have noticed a huge difference playing online between the two consoles. I think many of the people I loved to hate on the 360 jumped ship. Good riddance I say.

I'm not sure that spite should be your deciding factor when buying a console. Trust me, Juveline Jackassery is a multi-platform game. In fact, I think we are up to Juveline Jackassery 6 at this point.
