I really don't know how these things work out; like the "Freud as a towering figure" thing. He said very little that was original, and when he was original he was usually catastrophically wrong. And the psychiatric profession was well on its way to making its own mark in the world when he came along. Which I suppose

I bet you there's not a speck of dirt on that whole thing.

Galileo used a medieval version of the scientific method called the "demonstrative regress;" as did William Harvey when he proved that the heart pumped the blood.

Beautifully done!

Oh no way. Some things are just too well done. Eek!

I am sorely tempted – but I want the new one. Surely it's right around the corner.

If you ever start drinking coffee, I would just ask that you learn to appreciate it. I put it up there with beer, wine, chocolate, and rice: foods that have a whole culture backing them up.

Built to last and be always on call. I like that.

There's an old Chinese martial saying: Take your sword from your enemy. This is intriguing.

That's about the time the Church incorporated Aristotle. That makes sense, as her arguments against gay marriage today are Aristotelian. He in turn was extended brilliantly by Thomas Aquinas.

Well I could do without the grisley ones. Not morally outraged or anything; that kind of stuff seems to get to me. (I can't watch torture movies, for example.) But these are all nicely done technically. Migrate Mother, 1936 is my favorite.

Regarding ulcers: is it because coffee's acidic? I make mine cold brew, or buy cappuccinos when I'm out and about. Nothing acidic about those.

You know if it weren't for the fact I feel obligated to watch this series with a friend I would have dropped it long ago. There is soooo much hate on Christianity and White people here it's really off the rail.

Hmmm. Maybe they can send some robots to Mars to start up the fuel-making process and give them a back-up. If everything goes well they'll have extra for whatever... Maybe they'll get stuck for some reason and have to stay there for years before we can mount a rescue mission.

I think it's one man and his anima. They are reunited into a single, unified personality - the necessary prerequisite for moving on. Of course this assumes we are larger than our physical bodies.

1. No.

A lot of people hate this Star Trek reboot but I really enjoyed it. The one thing I reeeeally don't like? They keep screwing with the fans by stringing the series out way too long. They need to start filming in 2014, and if J.J. can't do it they need to find someone who can.

The Wizard of Oz was big in the Soviet Union. It literally had a life of its own. They had no idea we'd made it into a movie. :-)

Yeah. But now the big thing is sea salt - which has no iodine. I bought the Morton brand because they add it. I suspect the big "jumps" in IQ were actually children saved from *losing* IQ points because of their mother's poverty.

I read about the kid in San Francisco who had to leave the theater with his mother in the beginning of the film. I think that's a testimony to the amount of love and hard work that got poured into this movie. I think it's going to hold up very well over time, and I really hope we get a sequel.
