I must agree, locking up has saved me several times because I can choose the direction of the car's momentum if I want, not just where the wheels are pointed. Of course abs has its advantages too. Oh and the hand-brake is good at killing understeer...

Without ABS he would've had a chance there, just locking up the wheels, kept going in the direction of the road without the tires struggling for grip and pulling him toward the curb.
