Wouldn't those same adhesive graphics also prevent a crack from expanding, as the pressure on the are would be spread over the area of the decal?

As someone who has had to fit a respirator, when it comes to face masks, stuff like facial hair can throw off the seal. If there is a negative pressure, surrounding air can invade. It could also invade if you are talking, which can break the seal as your face moves.

Nope. If they are advertising coffee, they need to use coffee. If they are using the coffee as a background/accessory, they can use something else.
