You would have to hit a major bump to eject any of those contents. The way aerodynamics work in an open bed, there is a small vortex of rotational air. It could easily pick up light objects like empty coffee cups but it wouldn’t be able to pick up a case of paper towels or a 10gal jug of milk.

I’ve hauled a washing machine, dishwasher, 95-gallon water heater, plywood, decking materials, 8' 4x4s, several loads to the dump, several loads of compost, load of gravel, many cardboard recycling runs, sod, feed sacks and pavers. That was all in the last two years.

Big and small rocks, piles of pebbles, logs, shovels, axes, saws, metals in many forms, furniture, meat, sticks, planks, pipe, rods, car parts, most sheet material like plywood, drywall etc. And dead bodies. They don’t move around so much. I’ve had paper towels in the truck and not had the fly out, but at highway

Here’s my view of a project that is perfect for the Maverick.

They have gig cargo nets for the bed for this kinda situation. put your stuff in, stretch the net over it all and drive away. And how it doesn’t start raining before you get home!

I have been sort of daily driving a Bristol Fighter, the big Bentley is away to be photographed and the Lagonda(s) both have problems, even my silliest car does not need bungees or a cargo net to go grocery shopping.

It depends - but in all honesty, I’d probably run with a tonneau cover simply for fuel economy, so then it would make in enclosed and you wouldn’t need to worry. But stuff like that I would typically assume would just go in the back seat (I don’t own a truck, but that’s where smaller “loads” would go).

You can! I usually just toss everything on the seat / in the floor, doh. I don’t really need a truck, personally; I really wanted something sporty like an old Supra or 300ZX, but the truck was cheaper. I can have fun hooning it, it doesn’t use a ton of gas, and I have the added benefit of being able to haul things.

Mythbusters did a thing on this - (well it was for gas mileage) but the point remains, that the bed causes a little loop of slower moving air- and the fast air rides over the top of it. So the bed of the truck doesnt get much turbulence.

No, that is not at all likely. I have soda cans and loose hay in the bed of my truck and the cans definitely roll around, but nothing really flies out besides any of the loose hay that catches air. up against the cab is typically the best place if you’re worried, and you can use tie downs that most trucks have to keep

yes, you can put that all in the bed by the cab and it will not fly out on the freeway.  do it all the time

Car makers: ‘Merica only wants Trucks and SUVs, so that’s what we make

This is a fair assessment, but who in their right mind would buy a fiesta or focus over a maverick? I owned a “14 1.0 ecoboost fiesta and it averaged 38-40 mpg depending on the time of year. The maverick I bought 3 months ago is consistently getting 40-44 mpg. It gets better mileage, has WAAAYYYY more space and cost

I feel like too many of us here have not been used car shopping in the past year. Having just done that dance myself, this price is totally reasonable for what looks like a truck in very good shape. Sure, the layout isn’t the most useful, but this is just what trucks cost now. NP from me.

It’s actually a 2012…

I’m in.

Given the crazy prices being asked for used cars lately, $17K seem perfectly reasonable for a 5 year old pick-up.

This is a truck I could easily sell for 19,999 at my dealership. I have a list of people to call whenever any regular cab shortbed Hemi of any trim level shows up, as long as I can keep em under whatever payment. These trucks are a rarity, and an absolute joy to buzz around in. A lot of people want more practicality

I don’t even know anymore. Apparently my brother’s 2012 high-mileage 2-door Wrangler is worth too much money right now too.

These are fairly reliable at this point.  Yes, the two seats does cut down on the buyers but if your a single guy or married, no kids, this is perfect.  My issue is it’s not a 4x4.  At this price point, I would want all 4 wheels to be driven.  It’s a No Dice vote for me.
