Driver error contributes to way more deaths than cyclist error: http://www.vox.com/2014/5/22/5738…. Major reason for that is probably that cyclists have a lot more skin in the game, and therefore a strong incentive to be safe even if their technically breaking the law.

That sounds like a problem with the city being piss poor at snow and ice removal. And kinda like you hating on people for trying to get to work despite the city's negligence.

I'm in Chicago and pretty involved in the cycling community here. I know one (1) commuter who tracks his rides, and he generally only does that for specific event rides. People who use apps around here are riding on Lakefront Path or they're riding to Evanston/Wilmette suburbs. It might be 20-30 miles but these guys…

In this case, the cyclists who track their route and mileage on an app are the minority. They're comparatively wealthy, have specialty gear, and they're riding to get OUT of the city so they can "train" or whatever it is they do on $6,000 bikes that they don't even have locks for.

I completely agree with you on this. As an urban cyclist, I never use an app to get around.
