I very much doubt they'll kill the dog if this is how the internet has reacted to the appearance of a dog in Call of Duty. This writer guy is going to want to surprise everybody, not do exactly what they're expecting.

I'm getting emotional just thinking about it!
Safe bet. Either that, or it saves you at the end!
I really want to shoot people in that jungle environment at 60 frames per second. Activision wins!
I think it's unfair to say that a particular site holds allegiance with a particular console. All of these gaming sites are written by teams of people, and all of those people have their own opinions. It could just be chance that more of the Kotaku journalists prefer Xbox.
A case could be made for the editor of any…
So essentially, if Desilets gets a good lawyer, then Ubisoft will be forced to either set a rough date for resuming work on 1666 (so that the indefinite hold actually becomes a hold, rather than just a cancellation in disguise) or simply give the IP back to its rightful owner.
I don't see why they wouldn't want him to…
I was literally about to post the same thing!
I played it on PS3, and all I could think of was how bad it looked. The lighting was nice, but the whole game looked really jaggy to me, and as with virtually every game this generation, the shadows were going mental.
Okay, I think I get you now. Ironically, it seems that most of this conversation has simply sprung from misunderstanding!
I suppose if you were looking solely at the gameplay then it would require some form of deeper psychoanalysis. Narrative theory works because it looks at something more or less self-contained, and the psychology involved is much simpler.
I think this this where you're making a fallacy though: ludonarrative dissonance isn't an oversight, or an error. It's a potential technique. Bioshock used it intentionally, it exploited the technique, which is what made the plot twist at the end so powerful. I guess what I'm trying to say is: calling ludonarrative…
That's less of an academic discussion and more of a general discussion, but I agree that it's worth talking about. I feel both sides have their merits. It's because games, in a way, have borrowed from movies for so long, and now we're at the point where we can have games that pretty much are just interactive movies.…
I'm discussing it more in the original sense, with particular emphasis on the word dissonance as opposed to just talking about unrealistic conventions. Realism isn't necessary in gaming, that's been established many times. And I disagree with your analogy that it's similar to movie characters not having to pee.
In that…
Yeah, I agree, the indie game scene is very rich in such content. Limbo had that effect on me, where I had to consider the work as a whole because of its ending. Flower & Journey, while artistically impressive to others, just seemed a bit pretentious to me. Like they were trying too hard to be artsy. To paraphrase…
Yeah, I suppose discussing shallow works in such a manner would be the equivalent to something like literary theory; regardless of what particular work you're discussing, the medium can always be discussed. Anything with a cultural influence as huge as CoD deserves such discussion.
On a high-end PC maybe, certainly not on the current-gen consoles that GTA V is being released on.
I'd like to see MORE discussions on stuff like ludonarrative dissonance. I know it's not for everyone, but neither is Citizen Kane, or Mozart. I love playing games for fun, but I also love games with deeper meaning like Bioshock, and such games warrant academic discussion.
Before people misunderstand me and a flame war…
I thought Resistance: Fall of Man looked and played like a PS2 game. Still do! It's early, early days yet. Things could still change drastically. More polygons won't make much of a difference, but realistic lighting, motion blurring, smooth frame rates - all that sort of stuff could make a big difference in the long…
