The weapons/armor do not drop above your PL, nor do they have any kind of raid perks. There is no advantage, other than having gear and lore before other people.

Only that the Xbox 360 didn’t have two versions of the same game for different models. They introduced the Elite and slimmer models, and those had better internal specs, sure, but I never had to worry about one model having the better experience than the other.
