I honestly didn't feel like it undermined that. In Diablo 2 half the fun was selling items to other players, be it for gold or items. Now with the new loot system and the lack of the auction house that will be impossible, as any piece of gear worth anything is Account Bound, and it's really annoying to stay in general…
I actually liked the auction house... I just hated the loot drop rates that made it mandatory to advance. The auction house mixed with the new loot system was the best combination ever, I could buy things if I wanted but I didn't have to to grow in power. Now gold is almost completely worthless.
I wouldn't really compare it to Day Z... it seems more like a Monster Hunter game, mixed with survival stuff.

Honestly I would just suggest learning to build your own, it's super easy. 90% of the work is hooking cables up in an orderly fashion. The other 10 is screwing stuff in.
I say that because pre-built are a big rip off. They charge like 200 bucks more than it's worth.
