I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here, and frankly I’m surprised I had to scroll down so far to see someone make this point. Well optioned midsize sedans are typically between 3-6 thousand dollars less than a comparably equipped crossover. That’s not a factor that’s so easily dismissed.

My initial nomination of the SS was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but my defense of its place here compared to a 3-series Bimmer is legit. I like the M3 as much as the next guy, but aside from roundel versus bowtie, it is no more luxurious than the SS.

I’m not disagreeing with your assessment of the SS’s luxury credentials, but you posted an M3. You can’t call the SS “not a luxury car” while claiming the M3 is one.
