As far as watching Indycars in person, the turbo engines are actually tolerable to hear without hearing protection, while Indy Lights cars are still incredibly loud. Notice in the video how everyone in the first half has earmuffs while this year almost no one does.

Reducing downforce for the Indycar race at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012 much more exciting and reduced pack racing, making it safer. Many of the drivers like it better too.
