I enjoyed reading about Le Systeme Chappe.

For five days before Helike disappeared, all the mice and martens and snakes and centipedes and beetles and every other creature of that kind in the city left in a body by the road that leads to Keryneia. Watson Brake in Louisiana is even older than Poverty Point. The large Troyville mound site was destroyed during the Huey Long administration to build a bridge.

The nutria rat has been very damaging to Louisiana wetlands. Bounty program was the one thing that has put a dent in the population. I'm surprised it took them that long to implement it because it had been effective elsewhere.
