Ok, I see your point. I'm just so sensitive because I'm a runner and this has been really upsetting because it's a place you feel totally safe (and I'm not from Boston and I've never run the Boston marathon). But I realize that I have to temper this because people who were there to watch their friends and loved ones

But it was against runners regardless if runners were a political target or because the event was a large, public, target where people happened to be running. It was an attack at a marathon and by default runners and spectators were the target.

Exactly. Unfortunately, by de-individualizing people it creates a cognitive/emotional distance. It's easier to "other" them and that's how you get assholes like this baker guy (who truthfully I had never heard of) who can malign like 1/3 of the worlds population by calling them animals.

If the perpetrator is white, my guess is they'll be labeled "crazy". Which, in comparison with Muslims or Arabs or people from the Middle East which are portrayed as "animals", i.e. less than human. It's a semantic difference that means that one person who is crazy doesn't reflect the whole (the US), where with
