The KH games are Nomura’s baby for sure. The FF7 Remake trilogy definitely draws inspiration from those games - from the battle system especially. I believe this was done to save memory space in the PS1 days. FF9 did this as well, but culled a lot of old locations through story reasons(roots would go over the old locations if they had no sidequest or main plot relevance). Strangely, FF7 never did this if I remember.
