Actually, having lived in Mexico for the past few months, where absolutely everybody drives a manual, I have seen many a dumb girl take selfies while driving a manual, cause "omg, the wind totes blew my hair into a cool look!!!1!". I can't wait to leave here in a few days haha.

It was a budget car with a manual, full time awd, wagon option, and a rally pedigree since '93. The Civic was... a civic.

I'd guess likely a combination of very low volume production, plus likely very high quality + tight tolerances. Those alone can push up prices significantly!
