Anything but. Roy is actually a pretty normal guy who just happens to know a fair amount about computers, and actually doesn't like the stigma of being thought of as just a computer geek. He just gets saddled with Moss who really doesn't have much interest in the outside world.

I thought the laugh tracks (as in all applications of laugh tracks) were stupid as well (okay it's live laughter, not canned, but still obviously faked and shoehorned in really dumb spots) but I genuinely laughed out loud at moments here.

I think The IT Crowd is funny all the way through, but it's at its best (in my opinion) after Matt Berry joins the cast, which I believe is partway through series 2. He's easily my favorite British comedian.

Also, The Big Bang Theory doesn't even compare to The IT Crowd.

It's funny, because the people who were recommending I watch the show were all from my old employer's IT department. They swore by that program.
