Seriously, why do they get to pull this crazy shit and we can't blame Autism on reading Ayn Rand?

I dunno, Alberta is more traditionally conservative for sure, but you guys have fewer head scratchers.
Though, I just realized something. Which province gives Canada the biggest political headaches? Which province is trying to pass legislation to ban ANY religious clothing but doesnt consider the GIANT crucifix in…
I'm not in the habit of telling people their feminism is wrong, but if someones feminism says that this story is anything less than monstrous, that we should temper our condemnation of this act because of cultural differences, then it's wrong.
OH! and it was totally us that put the kibosh on the meech lake accord too!
I'm gonna let you in on a secret. CSIS (our CIA) might find me and kill me for letting it out.
If you want to get rid of him without any concessions, all you need to do is mention us positively on one of your major television shows. We will all, collectively, die of happiness. Seriously, when Tom Brokaw did his tribute…
As a Winnipeg ex-pat who does really love Winnipeg and it's amazing arts community I can't entirely disagree. I think about the the bullshit anti-gay straight alliance shit Steinbach tried to pull, and that judge that let a rapist off calling him a "clumsy don juan." I think, shit, we *might* be Canada's florida.
As a Canadian who loves beer, I gotta say, our mass produced beer is WORSE than theirs. I will drink a bud or coors over molsen or labatt ANY DAY. And the American microbrew scene is beyond compare.
Not to say we don't have great beer too, Dieu du Ciel, Unibroue, Flying Monkeys, La Trou de Diable, Half Pints etc, just…
we keep the best of it for ourselves.
We ought to treat pubic hair (on any gender) the same way we treats beards. There are lots of reasons to have or not have them (only reasons to not have soul patches though) and no one is criticized for their choice.
Damn it! Defeated byy own train of thought. Well played.
He was a nice boy before you guys got your hands on him!
Good grief, iPad deleted my post. Here we go again. First, if the initial acquisition of the crown estates was terrible (from what I've read, it's complicated and I'm not going on record either way) I do t think we can characterize the current ownership by the Windsors as terrible, it's a strong word. But that's not…
Out of curiosity when did your family immigrate (I'm, baselessly, assuming you're North American)? My family (German-Mennonite) immigrated from Russia in the 20's fleeing the communists after they collectivized the farmland my great grandparents owned (given to their great grandparents by Catherine the great even…
I guess I brought up statute of limitations (as a metaphor, sort of) because pretty much all non reservation land in the USA and Canada was acquired from indigenous peoples by less reputable means than how the crown acquired the duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster, and considerably more recently too.
He can get off the registry early under circumstances, and his name won't show up on a search because he was under 18 when convicted. Maybe people remember his name, but in his circles, I'm not sure how damaging it will be.
I don't know if that's the rubric we want to use when talking about criminal punishment. But rather "was his punishment just" and then further, from the press release the portrayal of his punishment as a trying ordeal given the seriousness of his crime is pretty gross. And then gives no sympathy to his victim. They…
I used statue of limitations informally. Probably a poor choice given it's formal nature.
I'll respond to you and the other guy (name with numbers and y's) sort of simultaneous. I'm not trying to make the case that the Windsors deserve to own their land ownings or that they own it from a moral standpoint (Most land ownership have some shitty dealings somewhere in its history, even my grandparents land had…
The state has no claim to crown lands, they are privately owned by the Windsors. In the same way that my grandparents own farmland in southern Manitoba. The taxpayers have no legal claim to that land.
No, because crown lands are privately owned by the Windsors. If they were to suddenly become private citizens they would still own that land in the same way that any person might own land. Those lands are not given to the Windsors by the state. Rather, the income from those lands is given to the state by the Windsors.
