Because those services are already a part of the game and a part of Mojangs IP. Some random guy on the internet earning money from a feature in a game that isn't his seems pretty abusive to me.

Mainly they're taking advantage of people who don't know any better.

Go to say Malaysia and you'll see plenty of pirate movie and game sellers. Shut those down and you'll see plenty of people whose livlihoods are suddenly being threatened. Does that mean you should keep those pirate shops open?

I'm actually getting much better performance with these mods enabled. I've got a 4770K, 16GB of ram, GTX780, etc. and before the mod it was a stuttering, unplayable mess even turning almost everything down, horribly un-optimized. Yeah Polygon's email makes it out like Notch + co shadily slipped it in there. It's just that they never enforced it previously.

But by all reports users are finding better performance with the hidden graphics settings, suggesting that this is in fact a downgrade.
