It definitely can make enjoying anime a bit of a chore. I love One Piece and think Oda is fantastic, but the fact every single woman is either insanely curvy with revealing attire or a hideous monster (though Big Mom is far more interesting then most of the fan service gals).

I think that might be beyond their skills, but they have planted the idea of their being different factions or ranks among the aliens.

This is pretty much what it is. Players were starting to figure out how to solo these things within days, something that runs counter to the narrative Frontier is trying to tell.

I think the issue is more they should of tested, and balanced the alien encounters better in the first place if they didn’t want players to solo these things so quickly.

To me it seems like a situation where Frontier had a specific idea for how this story with these aliens to go, and didn’t want to adapt to how quickly players were figuring out and adapting (people figured out how to solo these things in like two days).
