I am a feminist, but I definitely do not see issues in strict black-and-white.

WOW WOW WOW. Ok, 1) HE DID NOT REDUCE HER TO HER LOOKS. This statement came at the end of a list of laudatory qualities-calling her brilliant, dedicated, and tough. 2) Obama's pro-women track record should speak for itself-do really think that he believes that women's power lies in their looks alone? His track record…
Yes, I understand what you're saying, all I am personally saying is I feel that Obama, who has a fantastic pro-women track record, saying this woman is attractive just does not outrage me. If he had been a Todd Akin-esque supporter of Dark Ages women's rights, obviously the situation would be different, but Obama's…
I totally agree-everyone would benefit, economically and otherwise, from increased access to farmer's markets. The one thing I would say is that farmer's markets tend to be more expensive than going to the grocery store-how can we combat this? Or should we? Interesting stuff!
While I agree that a Republican saying the same thing would have been slammed, I really can't bring myself to get upset about this. Obama has a great pro-women track record and his complimenting a longtime friend on an admittedly awkward public stage just doesn't rile me up, sorry.
You would legitimately be offended by someone praising your looks? Come on. This is taking things so far, holy shit.
I do not think it is fair to say that he "objectified her" by complimenting her appearance in an incredibly innocent way.
I don't think that it's fair to say that he thought of her as an attractive woman first. I didn't sense that implication; if anything, I thought the opposite: an attorney general first, an attractive woman second.
Yeah...I'm going to have to go ahead and say that's going way too far and reading way too much into this. When I say a guy is good looking, I'm not "subtly reminding men and other women that I'm the one "on top" (I'm not, obviously) of the gender hierarchy." Sorry, but whoa, no.
1) I think the idea of a Jezebel article discussing Tyler Perry films would be really informative and interesting. 2) You don't need double talk, you need Bob Loblaw.
what?
This is something I can definitely agree with.
THIS.
I'm not accusing MaryDell of personal hypocrisy, but it was something I noticed when I looked at that article directly after reading about this one. Again, I know the two are incredibly different situations, I just feel that this instance is really getting overblown.
I do agree that the backlash would definitely be more significant is Bush had said it, but I still wouldn't personally be up in arms about it. Your point is definitely true, though.
Ok. There's an article on Jezebel on Jarrod Scott (spelling?) posing nude for Vogue. The comments are blatantly objectifying his body and only his body. So, is it "fair game" that an attractive man is objectified, then? I realize that he posed nude, so that changes things, and I definitely agree that it's tiresome…
Oh, come on. This is taking being offended at nothing SO far. Would anyone REALLY be offended if someone said this about you? If he had only referred to her as the best looking attorney general, that's one thing, but he did nothing to diminish her accomplishments. This is a non-issue and it's absurd that people are…
After reading this, I can totally understand why her stand-up routine made zero people laugh.
