I swear I remember reading a novel which was the origin story of Elminster where he spent a fair amount of the book polymorphed into a woman. Maybe it was fan fiction? Nope, Making of a Mage. I read it when I was a teenager so, not super sure how much care Greenwood took to that whole situation.
