1988? Wasn’t the NES first released in 1983? So 5 years after release you were able to buy an NES for the equivalent of $300? Sounds about right.

“Danced around 150 for a time” ? Was that time years after they were new? The always accurate and infallible wikipedia quotes the US dollar price at $299, it also states the release date as 1983, which according to this inflation calculator makes it equivalent to a $714 purchase today.
