Log4J was a bad vulnerability, but the bigger issue with some of those is that companies using those libraries/software with the vulnerabilities in them refuse to update after the fix is put out.

Lots of games are written in C++ (which is also what Unreal uses). C++ is an extension of the C programming language and both of those have undocumented behavior that can cause simple functions to perform in unexpected ways depending on what compiler is used to compile the code.
Things that simply can’t be tested for…
If Steam IS DRM, then so it Humble, GOG, Itch, EGS, Origin, etc.
The reality instead is that Steam is a distribution tool that offers developers optional DRM, but does not require it. If the installation method is DRM, then everything except old-school discs are DRM......
I think much of the current Star Wars content is the Anti-thesis to the MCU. They seem to expect you to watch the movies + Clone Wars + Rebels + Mando + BoBF to get the full background to most characters. There are exceptions. I’m pretty sure that Kenobi and The Acolyte are going to be largely standalone (well, as…
I still think the Star Wars fandom some how is still obsessed with what they expected Boba to be from a few min and a small amount of lines in small portions of two movies.
I find the timing on this suspect. That said, I work in tech (Software Engineer) and the make up of teams in general have been moving this way for years. Heck, in most of the teams I’ve been on QA is no longer a separate role, but rather a required piece of knowledge about the language you’re working in.
Heck, most…
The bigger issue isn’t that they aren’t enforcing it and more that the law was not written to account for this. Those agencies are bound to the letter of the law and that law is pretty vague. Our justice system, both Civil and Criminal, are built on an accuser bearing the the “burden of proof”. This is why you see so…
For all the mistakes that they have made, my guess is that this is partially why Valve is making the moves they’ve been making over the last 8ish years with their Linux-based push. They see Microsoft (and other companies) trying to take full control of the gaming ecosystem and Valve is trying to put things in place to…
The producers specifically said months ago that they were leaving it open for future projects and that they wouldn’t be addressing OR ignoring the remaining 3 books. I.E. No cut content and no rushed content
The problem isn’t about devs supporting Linux that aren’t, it’s that they are actively taking games off the Trove that already have Linux and Mac versions.... and all of this just so they can have a Windows Client for managing downloads. It really doesn’t make a lot of sense as those games rarely get updates, so…
I really dislike these bans so much since it effectively isn’t any different than watching the show with people in the same room, but the law wasn’t written with today’s technology in mind.
I can see what you’re saying as a viewer of the movies, but Luke’s statement is not meant for the audience, it’s a world-building mechanism. As far as most of the galaxy is concerned in Star Wars, Tatooine is a no-name planet with nobody on it. One of the main reasons that crime and slavery thrives there. Just because…
I’m sorry you had to endure that. I’ve never understood that attitude from “Christian” or “Catholic” churches.
The Christian Bible itself warns against passing judgement on anyone for their “sins”:
James 4:11-
In all the injustice that is rooted in White Supremacy and Racism in this county, it can be hard to remember that the Judge and Jury are bound by the written laws when determining guilt.
I think it is a mix big company not caring and local culture. I worked for a big Japanese tech company. Their culture is very much “We take pride in what we do, if you don’t like how we do it, go somewhere else”.
We are talking about the country who’s culture is so built by that mentality that it is against the law to…
The fact that it is running in the kernel and isn’t a hardware driver or an OS level piece of software is probably triggering AV software. This is bad. Anything that runs in the kernel doesn’t just have to be trusted, but also secure.... which never reaches 100% as there are always bugs and/or vulnerabilities.... not…
I think it is important to note that PCGamer, PCGamesN, and others have reported from interviews that there will be a simultaneous PC release, though I could be misreading that. But, either way, according to the developer there will be a PC release regardless.
It’s probably good to note that the Developer, Aspyr, has ported both KOTOR games to other platforms, so they’ve worked on the game/story before. This just may be that they don’t have the capital to do a full-scale AAA level remake on their own as they are a smaller studio
I think Take Two has an uphill battle to fight. If CNCNet, OpenRA, OpenMW, Zdoom, GemRB, and others didn’t exist (and, in the case of CnCNet & OpenRA, have support from EA to do so), then maybe it would be more clear cut. That said, Licensing requirements and Copyright protections don’t generally prevent reverse…
Based on what’s been done in the books (both Legends and Canon), it has been weaponized multiple times, but weaponizing it is highly unpredictable to the point where the attacker is just as much at risk as the target.
Or at least that’s what I gathered.
