Visually the art style is outstanding. The header screenshot I thought was a concept art drawing at first.

Like one of the other commenters mentioned. Very 2000AD-esque.

While I like the concept of war stories, I still think that they’re too short and a bit devoid from reality of what actually happened. That they enter a weird Tarintino-esque Ingorious Bastards vibe but still trying to pass them off as Band of Brothers. I’d prefer if they just went full Wolfenstein or Brothers in Arms

So this is how we get reverse Lara Croft as a gaming icon, right?

I’m finding the whole experience is feeling very uneven to me.
Pros

I love Rainbow Six Siege, but I find that the game has a solid basis that works *despite* Ubisoft’s shenanigans not because of them.

I still remember the days where we hoped that we would get a graphics upgrade up somewhere down the line to make it more like that E3 video. Oh sweet summer child...

Weird I never got that tutorial. I blasted it with Hosea until it ran away. Then hunting it on my own I got the drop on it and repeater rifled it into oblivion.

Yeah the game has an amazing amount of writing to make it feel like a living breathing world without the player’s direct input.

I had one case where I was sacking an empty house I randomly decided to see what was in. When I was walking around I could hear these voices outside, where an older ex-confederate gang member

Shockingly well made.

and you can tell as fans of the series they really tried to incorporate the lore as well they could, across all the games so far.

It just makes me even sadder that Bethesda is gripping on to that license even tighter these days. So we’ll never get another official New Vegas style collaboration

Even though I backed Star Citizen years ago, and all I ever wanted was just the single player in the vein of Wing Commander.

At this point, while the trailer looks pretty. I’ll believe it when I’m actually playing it. That is to say, if I get a chance to.

The moment you start think you’re inherently better than someone else by merely existing, that’s when you’re going down a rabbit hole that doesn’t end well for anyone.

Finishing off Valkyria Chronicles 4, myself.

Shame it’s sort of under everyone’s radar since it’s quite good and a welcome return to form after whatever the heck VC: Revolution was.

At the time I remember “people” wildly bitching about how the campaign didn’t have authenticity because you could encounter PPSH’s in Normandy (which later turned out to be a debatable tidbit) and because you could play as black or asian combat women in multplayer.

It sounds like we’re hitting the ultimate incarnation of the “Ubisoft sandbox game”. Unfortunately we’re also seeing the limits of what that kind of game brings along with its strengths.

Where does Valkyria Chronicles 4 fall on this?

Feels relevant

Yeah I agree.

And here I thought me complaining years ago about the historical anachronism of Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai was being kind of petty, but that was basically just me.

But with this. It isn’t really about striving more towards an authentic representation of history for them is it?

I was kind of curious how this game would portray the Atlantic Federation and it sounds like they’ve basically made them heroes.

Coming to us some time after WW3 (the game), and possibly the event.

That’s what I keep saying too. That the only logical next step forward is a Victoriana/WW1 Empire game. Either that or a side adventure into say the American Civil War.
