The IMS bearing issue affects models from 1997 through 2008. This does not limit it to just 997.1s. It includes all 996.1s, 996.2s, and well as 986.1/2 Boxsters and 987.1 Boxsters/Caymans. The exceptions are the 911 Turbo and GTX cars.
I did the same thing a couple years ago when the new Altima came out. Very comfortable. decent tech and great gas mileage. I traded in my 2007 Tahoe thinking about all the money I was gong to save.
