Aleks Krotoski has an interesting take on Google Now's serendipity, and how it's more limited than you might think.

I think I'd use these apps more if they weren't all about name-brand items. The majority of things I buy are the grocery-store brands.

Being an asshole is the only way to go. Plus, if you ever need to come back for service, they will want to get you out and satisfied ASAP. People need to stop thinking about car salesmen as people who are HELPING you buy a car. No.

I do sometimes. I also buy at ethnic markets a lot more. Farmers Markets around here are either inconveniently far away, or only available on weekends.

Yeah... My buying habits don't really do well with rebates. I don't think I've ever seen a rebate on fresh meats and veggies, which is about 90% of what we buy at the store. It'd take forever to get to $20 for us.

I agree, this has nothing to do with his truck. This does not belong on jalopnik.

No, he broke their laws. We arrest Mexicans for having 5 grams of marijuana, which would be legal in Mexico.

"that is not the rate I am looking for, you can go about your way and bring me another one"

How about saying "you *will* do better than that" while waving your hand around like a Jedi?

Oh for the love of GOD, can everyone get the fuck over this shit already?!?!

That's a nice Mercedes, whats with the Bentley badges?

The $82 a day figure does not need a reality check. The reality is that given current investment yields available to the small investor (i.e. funds, CDs, bonds, etc.) you can't invest enough to retire without putting a HUGE chunk away. All the old advice you see tends to be based on the ability to get 5% compounding

Have you ever considered a Miata L, with a 4-6" stretch in the middle so people taller than 6' with spindly, awkward legs and big feet can drive them?

Scion should really bring back the original xb: The second gen is bloated and ugly, and lacks the light tossability of its predecessor. Update it as needed to meet current safety standards but bring back the basic box. Also, the new tc is awful.

It's high time we ended the practice of tip-based wages. If restaurants want to pay a commission or a flat living wage or whatever, that can work.

Nope. It's always fine not to tip someone. Your pay isn't my problem, nor is your conscious decision to opt for a lower-paying job packaging to-go orders instead of waiting on tables. Don't like the result of your decision? Change it.

I still don't understand why I have to tip anyone. Nobody tips me for doing my job, even when I do it well.

And now here's a view from western Europe:
Waiter - only if it's good and service was excellent, usually something like 2-5%
Rest. Delivery - Only when it is a couple of cents to round it of (i.e. $19,76 —> $20,-)
Rest. Takeout - never
Bartender - only when service has been perfect all night, but pretty much never.
Barista

If the service sucks, why in the Holy Hell would I still tip 15% to my waiter?!?!
