The HORROR!!!! Just as bad as being an abuser, a rapist, and a racist.
I agree with you there. I think it’s fair to call out TS for doing stupid TS things.... But there are DEFINITELY other people out there who are far far worse and get far less scrutiny (hey there Chris Brown!)
My damie, many of those people started their movie career IN ASIA. By the time they made it to Hollywood they were well known. Margaret Cho was established as a stand up comic.
Yeah all of those actors started their careers decades ago when Asians were particularly en vogue. Not only that they were cast in explicitly Asian Roles. The roles that Chloe has had are non specific about race.
Long, long history of that in Hollywood. Huge numbers of actors had to change their names to get famous, both for racist reason (their name was very “ethnic” and Hollywood hates that) or because their name was hard to pronounce. For example, for Jews, you’ve got Marilyn Monroe = Norma Jean Mortensen, Kirk Douglas =…
As an ABC (American-born Chinese), I 100% believe it that her name change improved her chances of being chosen for a role. There is still a disturbing amount of racism aimed at Asians in the US.
You missed the killer line:
It also seems like a dumb takedown as well. Teen Vogue always wanted to sell you stuff/attract companies that want to advertise towards teen girls. Yes, it started having more political articles, but it was still the same magazine, it just had more political articles... The author seems to have written this under the…
She is stunning.
The Economist is also a terrible publication full of warmed-over profit über alles propaganda given the thinnest possible veneer of intellectual impartiality, but agreed there isn’t much for your average teen girl in those pages.
I understand and appreciate what you’re saying.
This feels like a needless takedown. Teen Vogue has done an excellent job at integrating social and political issues into their already-established brand. No one thinks of it as the NYT; they might think of it as NYT + a “go-to” for lifestyle, fashion, beauty etc. advice and inspiration. But like, that’s fine?…
I hear you and I don’t disagree. But neither the Economist or Atlantic intersperse their articles with fluff specifically geared toward teen girls. I think teens can enjoy following politics while also getting how-tos on the latest hairstyle trends from the same source.
Libba Bray already did this in her phenomenal book Beauty Queens, in which a group of teen beauty queens are stranded on an island and work together to build a society, explore their sexuality, build amazing positive female friendships, overcome the odds, and defeat an evil dictator. It’s a fucking fantastic book and…
Murderer Fingered By Parrot
I mean, you do remember Kanye supporting and meeting with Trump, right?
You mean a man who made a sex doll of her and put it with Bill freaking Cosby? I have no idea how the other people in that video aren’t mad.
What the fuck is wrong with you. Her daughter died.
