America’s problems at root lie with its delusional relationship with government and taxation. Nobody wants to pay taxes for stuff so they privatise things that shouldn’t be privatised (police forces, prisons) and do everything else that a state should do (like infrastructure) on the cheap or not at all.

The EV mandate is a mix of home and EU regs so its not something the Germans can avoid completely; but yes, the amount of energy supplied by coal in Germany is a bit embarrassing; that’s what comes of knee-jerk reactions after Fukushima and pandering to the Greens.
