XII and Type-O are awesome. XII is actually my favorite in the main series (Tactics, bro), but more for the lack of love story and focus on politics than anything.

This looks like a more refined and complex version of Type-0, which is actually really fun, if a bit limited.

I kind of remember a strong reaction to it, and the cops were dealt with quickly.

I think that’s the pitfall with new tech like this. It’s too different in its current incarnation for most developers to really have any grasp or comfort on how to implement it. They end up either making a tech demo or just turning your neck into the right joystick.

This is excellent. I like this.

It’s an old trope. I think this particular incarnation is a carryover from anime, where unexpected weapons make for a dramatic character reveal.
