That was necessary for high-end-dungeons back then, for Blackwing Lair and later especially old Naxxramas. Chimaeroks were driven extinct by those early high-end raiders ^^

iirc on the classic server it would take you almost 48 hours of constant playing using the “best route” (pulling the char using chars that are already at 60) to get to max level through running instances as soon as the char can enter them, killing high level mobs in winterspring etc...
