I've done the Mew glitch on my old gameboy before but I never had to do any of the Wigglytuff or Slowpoke battle parts. Just get an Abra without fighting that kid and once you have him do the teleport right when he sees you. When I got back to the Pokecenter the first time Mew popped up for me.
