I am unfamiliar with the whole of Burkeman’s writing, and am only going by what’s in this article, so it’s possible I’m inferring things out of context. That being said, I recognize the appeal of thinking this method is a good one, but the general notion of it seems a little backwards. It’s much easier (not to mention

I guess this might make sense for a retail bar, as they’d want the appearance of everything being “fresh”... but for everybody else, I call B.S. on this. Creamy liqueurs and syrups, yes. And of course, wine and vermouth (and beer, obvs). Regarding everything else on that chart, I’ve never noticed liqueurs or spirits

A big yes to TweetDeck. And Plume for Android — having tested out at least a dozen Twitter apps, that was the closest to the TweetDeck experience for me.

Ever since Microsoft decided to start pushing Win10 like a drug dealer offering the first hit for free, I’ve made it a point to go through every single Windows 7 update file and click the link to find out exactly what that particular update is for. It’s far from ideal — they should have a brief synopsis of each update

“The degree of roast also doesn’t really matter when it comes to amount of caffeine either.”

I’ve had that happen so many times. Then I have to reply again with something like, “So, is that ‘sounds good’ to the first suggestion, or...?”

Hmm... I always heard it was just the opposite — that video surveillance is legal in most cases, but audio is not (without express permission in advance).

I see what they were going for here, but isn’t the first rule of satire that it should at least be clever?

Now playing

TL;DW — All of their main points are shown in a list starting at 4:23 into the video.

For the longest time, I was pronouncing it “mehm” — like the first syllable of memento or memory. Once I learned others were saying it like “meem”, I was like, “Wut? You guys are kidding, right?” It still sounds wrong to me.

Yeah, I think the voice acting is fairly decent in the “American” dubbed version. And for anyone who still wonders why it was dubbed in the first place, in that era, popular culture in the US was a lot more limited than it is today, or even than it was in, say, the 90s. The majority of Americans had probably not seen

Grim, yes. But still funny as hell.

Yeah, I use the em dash a lot. (ALT+0151 is my friend.) However, the one thing I hardly ever do — except when I need to cut back on characters in a tweet — is to use it without any spaces around it. That always seemed odd, and contrary to proper sentence structure. To me it’s as odd as it would be putting a comma like

GMTA. I came here to post the exact same thing.

Heheh. For me, it’s the A-K. Seems like every time I get dealt that, I end up losing my shirt.

I found this open source software very recently, and have been playing it a lot. Good AI. Simple enough to start right away, but challenging enough to win that it’s pretty fun... and a good way to improve your skills.

Ah well, I figured it was probably wishful thinking. ;-)

This brings up an interesting question. A few other commenters mentioned that rinsing may eliminate some gluten in wheat-based pasta, but what about overall carbs? I’m curious if the level of carbohydrates would drop significantly if the pasta is thoroughly rinsed. I’ve been eating LCHF for about 8 months now, and I

One thing I’m never quite sure about is tipping the driver of a free shuttle bus — i.e., one that takes you from your hotel to the airport. I guess I usually tip a buck or two, but I’m never sure if it’s expected. I do know that only a small percentage of riders ever tip the driver, from what I’ve seen, at least.

Agreed. I don’t think it’s giving the proper “user agent” to the browser, so if you have a site with different display modes depending on whether it’s viewed on a desktop or on mobile, it appears this site will only show the default mode (desktop viewing, for most sites).
