Good points all. As commercial drone business increases, I can see larger scale drones with ICE on board to extend flying time. They don’t have to be small. They also don’t have to be quadracopter types. RC planes can be quite large. Blend the two and you have a large RC plane designed to carry the payload you need.

There is no reason why this isn’t the case now. For the cost of the helicopter, you could have drones following each car all around the course. But drones don’t make the event look big money sexy like helicopters do. And drones can’t carry VIPs.
