What does “almost 24 children” mean? 23? 23.5? 23.6243785321 children? 23 children plus one barely legal teen?

Am I the only person who finds this to be the least objectionable thing a college athletics program has ever funded? I mean, this is probably less than $500 in stuff. I doubt they would have balked if he’d instead asked for $66K in compensation, then paid someone on his team $500 to procure this $500 in stuff. A grown…
Yeah, I think this is actually why conservative kids go to college and become liberal. They learn that the world is much more than the little speck of earth they/their communities occupy, and recognize that liberal policies serve that diverse world much better.
Your friend sounds like an okay-enough person. However, I question both the notion that we need conservative politics (as we’ve seen them over the last 30 years or so) and that the driver/navigator metaphor is apt. If we go back to the Gipper, fiscally conservative politics (plus, likely, the Republican politician…
I’m no Clinton fan, but your points don’t really take away from the point of the article: David Brooks is both terrible and unaware of sexism. The things you list are certainly important in considering who should be POTUS. However, it’s not particularly compelling to say that a person who is possibly (probably?) shady…
Not that you care, but it really rubs me the wrong way when people, who are human no matter what, are referred to as things that are obviously not (trash, scum, shit, animals, etc.). Is she a horrible person? Arguably. Is Bill Cosby a horrible person? My Magic 8 Ball says “With 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999%…
I didn’t watch it, and I won’t. But people who actually sat through the whole thing should contact ABC and let them know what they thought.
1. Death threats and harassment are all bad, all the time.
I think she’s just being a shrewd business woman. I actually am not a huge fan of her music, though every recent album has had at least one or two good songs. But I don’t fault her for not trying to halt the same frenzy that keeps her does sold out and her songs topping the charts. I’m sure she really loves making…
Legally, you are completely correct. God probably would have something to say about his moral obligations, though.
I think the main point of progressive politics is that too many people are too poor. You certainly can’t mathematically think that both people besides the wealthy will “pay for it” and that the poor will become less poor in the process.
I would love to see either proof that you know at least 50% of Sanders supporters or a well-executed study indicating that 50+% of his supporters are poor AND think they deserve to live like reasonably well-off people. (Thinking they should not work 40+ hrs/week and still need food stamps does not count.)
So is the takeaway that black people aren’t really people? I don’t understand how the jokes that make black people uncomfortable are the kind of thing you can get mad about, but not uncomfortable.
If I truly thought the police opted not to save my kid out of convenience (versus safety), I would probably sue. I don’t think the commission of a crime absolves the police of their obligation to respond to an emergency. That said, right now its sounding like the police couldn’t safely intervene.
I don’t think the solution is to smear back. If you have a legit reason for not trying to save the girls, then stick to that. “They had rap sheets” is not a legitimate reason. “They stole a car” is not a legitimate reason. “The water was truly not safe for us to enter” is a legitimate reason (assuming the truly part…
We don’t know each other, and I’m of limited inclination to give you my resume to convince you that I was always a person who was “doing the right thing and going somewhere.” But let’s suffice it to say that I have more degrees than most people, my only significant debt is my mortgage, and I had never gotten a B on a…
This post plus your reply have me laughing so hard I’m crying. I think none of this should be funny, yet it all is.
He may not have cared about Hill and sexual harassment, but every Dem should have cared about confirming an ultra conservative justice who would sit on the bench for decades. And if they’d had the courage to just say “No. He’s the literal worst” they could have avoided looking like complete idiots. And if they’d also…
Hence the “or minimize.” Also, I’m not sure that capitalism actually necessitates that some people not have food or shelter. It may necessitate that some of us have bigger or better options, but it does not require that some people have zero options.
I’m sorry. Your solution to rich white people displacing poor people is to increase the crime in poor neighborhoods? Here’s an idea: figure out how to get rid of or minimize abject poverty.
