I have it on my iPhone, iPad and Macbook. I've never had any lag issues on my Mac. When I get a message, the alert is almost simultaneously across all my devices. I use it A LOT.

I (and my wife) use iMessages for all our messages between each other (which are a lot). I have my account synced up with my iPhone, iPad and Macbook. She has hers associated with her iPhone and iPad. After literally thousands of messages we've only once had a delay of a couple minutes. We've been pretty happy…
