I've heard it said that Bilbo Baggins could be genderswapped without any other changes at all in the story, no problem. Don't see why not.

I don't want to seem nit-picky, but a lot of the examples people are giving don't seem like character makeovers so much as a normal story arc. I'm thinking of a character makeover as a sudden shift in the basic appearance and/or personality, as opposed to a story arc which takes the character from one state to another…

Sometimes when there are questions asked on this blog, I have a lot of trouble deciding. This is not one of those times.
