I was talking with my cousin a while back and somehow the subject of mixed race people came up. She mentioned how only some mixed race people are lucky, how some of them get "the kinky hair" and I was just stunned that someone in my family would think like that.

I don't think they were were condoning horrible things for the sake of the culture, but rather giving a reason to why certain ways are the way they are. Understanding the way things became to be helps us better address how to face issues for now and the future.
