The thing is you are still doing something to seek out knowledge, even if that isn’t reading books. In this case, books are just emblematic of people who continue to explore their world. Read a comic, listen to a podcast, listen to an audio book. Its not just books, but I do love me some books. :)

Of course! I do think that there is something to be said for actually reading and maintaining and improving cognitive function, but audiobooks are great too.
