There is a fine line to walk between gratuitous and distressing but necessary when it comes to sexual violence. From my reading, especially at an opera, this seems to cross the line into gratuitous.

The vast majority of my family is in Youngstown and the drive to where they are is as depressed as I get. Vacant buildings, empty businesses, broken windows, poverty, ignorance. I am glad my family has been able to make a living there, but it is depressing to see.

That is an incredibly depressing way to look at it. There are outposts of civilization in the Midwest. That said I am glad you escaped.

I have family in the area, and I can tell you that it is a depressing place to be. And an area, like much of rural Ohio, that has a lot of drug problems. These are the areas where police assume its just drugs and probably moved on without much of an investigation.
