That just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Because the flips aren’t likely to result in injury, the car is just bleeding off energy and the driver, while uncomfortable, is not experiencing significant g forces. If you wanted to cite a safety fault in sprint/midget cars it’s a lack of crumple zones. Of course in this case the roof of the car was impacted, which

It’s a 380 SL, so it’s OK but not great.

I didn’t think about that, when people say keys I think about, you know...keys.

What about the mechanical tumblers in the lock or the steering column lock? I assume you couldn’t just drive away on a programmed blank key.

WE HAD A DEAL!

I disagree, the tesla driver should have been able to avoid that collision. If he had slowed down by 30 mph and had moved to the left lane he should have been able to clear the back end of the semi which had mostly cleared the road. There was certainly enough time to react, it would have taken the semi 10-15 seconds

It wasn’t a frontal impact, the tesla was stopped in the intersection and the truck ran a red light, so it must have come from the side. Despite how safe the tesla is, if had been a frontal impact or if the truck had hit the drivers door it most likely would have been fatal for the tesla driver. The amount of energy

That’s the first time ever someone has called driving a Saturn “better times.”

Well, if my math is right, he was going about 65mph, assuming he didn’t slow down before impact.

You don’t need to visualize it, all you need to do is read the sticker on the dash that the rental truck companies put there to tell you how tall the truck is.

From the description of the accident it sounds like the entire roof of the Tesla was removed by the trailer, I wouldn’t hold out any hope of a dashcam surviving. I’m not sure how much data the Tesla camera records but at least it should be safe in the autopilot computer.

All Elon did was give a bad journalist more publicity. If he had ignored the story completely I never would have heard of it and many others would never have heard the story either.

You do realize that Steve Jobs nearly bankrupted Apple and was the main reason it was in such bad shape in the late 90's? A Crazy CEO is going to gamble the company, sometimes that’s a winning bet, sometimes it’s a losing bet.

Get out of here with your crazy ideas. Tesla would need to open hundreds of stores in the next year on their own. Maybe they could contract that out to a group with some experience in opening these so call “car stores.” That would allow Tesla to focus more on manufacturing and launching new vehicles.

Why are you assuming there was no defect in the autopilot? It did miss a semi truck right in front of it. Anyway, Tesla felt the need to report the death to the NHTSA as a possible safety defect. Why wouldn’t the owners of the company be given the same information?

Yet GM has to announce deaths from ignition switch failures, an autopilot failure would be a similar situation.

Sorry but that joke came up short.

Best thing is it doesn’t look stupid anymore looks less stupid.

What gets me about the “No CO2" crowd is electric cars do emit other types of pollutants, especially when charging, things like ozone and NOx.
