I never heard of Links Awakening having absolutely any relation to US Mario Bros 2, and I really don't think there's any relation, especially considering the localization of US Mario Bros 2.

There is an entire mode designed to teach you the terms (Teach me, Miss Litchi!). However, yes, they do teach you during the game here in there, although sometimes, I admit, it can be difficult.
It has one beginning and ending. The ending is the true ending, and each character starts at the same point. You just construct what happens along the way through everyone's routes.
(spoilers) Hazama really does know how everything will happen; the reason behind that is covered in the games, and is pretty much the major plot point of Continuum Shift.
Personally, I'm a fighting game player and I play a lot of BlazBlue; been playing the series for a long time. I know the story, played through them all etc, but haven't bothered to watch the anime. I probably won't, but, who knows... I hear a lot of mixed opinions on it, and I already know the plot anyways.
