To be 100% honest, I do particle physics, so on a day to day basis it's probably more about special relativity than quantum mechanics. General relativity I accept because it seems to be accurate, but doesn't mesh with my kind of physics.

As someone who could reasonably be called a quantum physicist, I have nothing against Special Relativity. Also, the only thing I have against General Relativity is how complex it is. As an aside I'm also down with the whole anthropogenic climate change thing.

So I know this is a personal list and I appreciate shout-outs and good tips for the future but I'm disappointed by the lack of Harry Harrison. Also I am disappointed that I couldn't find him in the comments. Am I alone?

So I tend to think of Evangelion as massively over-rated, but even amongst those in my peer group that love it I have never heard anyone say they prefer the original TV ending. I'd like to take a second to congratulate you on your test and thank you for giving me the validation that I never had from my own giant

As someone with multiple degrees in Physics I think you're taking this way too seriously. I get that everyone has their pet peeves, but I'd prefer that everyone knew about wave physics with some small misconceptions than that only a small fraction of the population knew the subject with 100% accuracy.

Don't be so down on faxes, think of them as crappy teleporters. Soon we'll be faxing with 3D printers, and I think we can all agree that will be the future.

My Homeopathy buddies would disagree with you there.

It does sound like more fun.

Really? I just looked up Floor Rules:
The following time limits are recommended for Limited tournaments:
• Sealed Deck—20 minutes for deck registration and 30 minutes for deck construction
• Draft—30 minutes for deck registration and construction
• Team Sealed Deck—20 minutes for deck registration and 60 minutes for deck

10 minutes would be awfully short for deck construction...

I was going to point out that he's really Diver Dan, but then I thought I should check out his career more thoroughly. Turns out David Wenham was in Dark City, now I have to go back and watch it.

I actually quite like the idea that all the funky Heisenberg Uncertainty shenanigans are due to the resolution of the simulation we're in. It's a cool thought.

And yet Rosemary is not listed as a good name. Interesting...

Nice URL shortening

Sounds like Marooned in Realtime by Vernor Vinge. Technically a sequel to The Peace War but only has one overlapping character (and therefore minor spoilers about who is alive at the end of the first novel).

Actually, I think what he's proven is that there are infinitely many pairs of primes which are separated by 70 million or less. I don't think this implies anything about the distance between arbitrary prime numbers, just that if you want to keep searching you'll always find a larger pair which has this gap or less.

This is not a Higgs Boson. I was going to get all complainy at the artist, but I not it's called the Madonna of the Particle and this (outdated) model of an atom does contain subatomic particles. In addition the painting as a whole was somehow drawn from a higgs boson containing event display but STILL...

I don't think anyone here is objecting to more Galaxy Quest, but a movie where a group of teenagers find themselves on an abandoned starship with a bunch of creepy artefacts would be good fun.

Did anyone else get really excited for Star Trek: Cabin in the Woods?
